Examples of my work

Here is some of the work I’ve carried out, from small repairs and redecoration to more involved jobs where practical problem-solving and attention to detail were needed. There are plenty of other examples I’d be happy to share on request – get in touch at hello@siskinprojects.co.uk.

Office workstation

I built this bespoke birch plywood desk with scaffold board shelving above, designed to fit the space.

Grout replacement

I removed, colour-matched and replaced the failed grout in this bathroom.

Electrical work and making good

The arrangement of extensions and connector blocks in this bedroom had become particularly untidy. I rationalised the wiring and installed new sockets and light switches in the correct locations. Once the electrical work was complete, I filled the cable chases and redecorated.

Cabinet hinge fixing

The hinges on this flush-mounted cabinet door had failed, causing it to drop out of alignment and catch on the edge. With new hinges and longer screws, the door now fits into the opening.

Garden fence repair

The concrete lip forming the bottom of this garden fence was damaged, and I used simple timber formwork to restore its appearance.

Redcorating interior woodwork

This was one of several rather tired doors and door frames in the same house in Surrey Quays that I redecorated, including preparing areas of flaking paint.

Exterior socket outlet

I installed two new sockets, one inside the house and one outside. The exterior socket is shown here, with its supply brought from the one in the cellar.

Bathroom cabinets and shelving

I made and installed oak-veneered birch plywood cabinet doors and solid oak shelving as part of a bathroom renovation.

Making good

I made good around these switches and sockets in Canada Water, following the installation of a new boiler by my client’s heating engineer.

I also made good around an open cable chase left after an earlier lighting installation.

Bay window desk

I co-built a bespoke desk in this bay window, extending the existing sill to create a full-width work surface.

Window to door conversion

A window opening can usually be adapted to create a new doorway, provided the structure, surrounding finishes and heritage constraints allow it. This project involved removing the existing window, preparing the opening and fitting a new timber door.

Planter refresh

At the end of a larger pre-tenancy renovation, I took the opportunity to tidy up this large terracotta planter and add some new plants, giving it a simple refresh before the property was let.

Fitting a chandelier in a listed building

I oversaw the restoration, rewiring and installation of this chandelier in the dining room of a listed building – it had been used for many years as a candle holder before we converted it. Ben wired the fitting off site, ready for Phil to install it.

Open plan renovation

I created an open plan living space by removing two walls, then fully renovated the space, including re-siting the kitchen, cabinetmaking, electrical work and laying a reclaimed mahogany floor.

Creating a garden

I worked with friends to turn a car park into a communal garden, building furniture and planting trees and plants.
