I’m Graeme, the founder of Siskin Projects.
I started the forerunner to Siskin in 2019, and I’ve been running small businesses since 1999. I also founded an award-winning decorating and refurbishment company which built its reputation on being thoughtful, reliable and straightforward to deal with. It’s still going strong under its new owner.
A lot of my practical experience has come from my dad, Gordon, who ran his own electrical services business for more than 40 years. He’s also a gifted woodworker, builder and renovator, so I grew up around all kinds of practical work being done to a high standard.
Over the years I’ve also worked with people skilled in design, cabinetmaking and construction, and I spent four years managing a large listed building. I’ve developed a good range of practical skills, but also a pretty clear idea of what people want when they have work being done in their home: someone reliable, considerate and able to get on with the job without creating more hassle. You can see some examples of the work I’ve carried out here.
I’ve deliberately kept Siskin small. I work with a small number of clients who value consistency, good judgement and getting things done properly. That gives me the time to be responsive, keep on top of the detail and provide the same courteous and dependable service that my dad always did.
A good description of my approach is that I think like a project manager while working like a craftsman. I understand that even a small repair can create a surprising amount of hassle if communication is poor or nobody takes responsibility for joining the dots. My job is to take that hassle away.
